37 drillings were made (8 m deep each), soil and ground water samples were taken and analysed on-site and in the laboratory in order to detect and delineate contamination of an abandoned railway station. We drilled manually two bore holes in the parking place of the trains under the basalt stone bed and took soil samples. 4 bore holes were also made (1 m deep each) for soil gas analysis in the open line section.

It was established that the ground water of the surveyed area is contaminated by TPH, PAH, naphtalenes, other alcyl benzols and xylols above the contamination level (“B” value). Surface projection of TPH contamination above “B” is 1.474 m2, above the remediation target level (“D” value) is 445 m2, volume projection of TPH contamination above “B” is 2.211 m3, above “D” value is 668 m3. The contaminated volume contains 6 kg TPH above “B” and 1 kg TPH above “D”.

Surface projection of other alcyl benzols contamination above “B” is 8 m2, above “D” value is 0 m2, volume projection of other alcyl benzols contamination above “B” is 12 m3, above “D” value is 0 m3.

Surface projection of xylols contamination above “B” is 26 m2, above “D” value is 0 m2, volume projection of xylols contamination above “B” is 39 m3, above “D” value is 0 m3.

Surface projection of PAH contamination above “B” is 1.593 m2, above “D” value is 716 m2, volume projection of xylols contamination above “B” is 2.390 m3, above “D” value is 1.074 m3. The contaminated volume contains 0,068 kg PAH above “B” and 0,022 kg PAH above “D”.

Surface projection of naphtalenes contamination above “B” is 1.886 m2, above “D” value is 1.015 m2, volume projection of naphtalenes contamination above “B” is 2.829 m3, above “D” value is 1.523 m3. The contaminated volume contains 0,14 kg naphtalenes above “B” and 0,06 kg naphtalenes above “D”.

Ground water surface and deepness contaminated by TPH above remediation target level partly contains the surfaces contaminated by other components. Total surface and volume of ground water body requiring remediation based on unified isocurve calculation is 1.200 m2, and 1.800 m3 respectively.
